Dog statue Hovawart

Brigitte Boss makes Hovawart statues life size in bronze also of your own dog in commission. Here are some examples.

The hovawart originated in Germany in the early 20th century. Kurt Friedrich König and his father Bertram König started breeding a long-haired dog with drooping ears from the typical farm dog in 1922, through inbreeding with newfoundlanders, leonbergers, German shepherds, kuvaszs and an African wild dog.

In 1937, the hovawart was recognised as a breed.

The hovawart is a long-haired dog with pendant ears. Coat colours are limited to three main colours: blond, black-blond (meaning black with brown markings) and black. The distribution within the breed is 60% black-blonde, 30% blonde and 10% black. The blonde is very similar to the golden retriever. Except in a blonde-blonde cross, all colours can appear in puppies within a mating. The shoulder height of a male dog is between 63 and 70 cm and of a bitch between 58 and 65 cm. The weight for both males and females is 25-40 kg.
