Bronze horse Statue of World Dressage Legend Totilas.
A special moment this afternoon in the picturesque surroundings of TAK Art Space in Speuld. Brigitte Boss, an international artist known for her beautiful sculptures of horses, announced at the official unveiling of the sculpture of Totilas that she wanted to donate a copy to the KWPN.
The most talked about dressage horse in the world. No horse in history managed to move so many people. This went so far that even outside the horse world people knew who Totilas was. For Brigitte Boss, based in Speuld, a stone’s throw from the KWPN center, it was not a foregone conclusion that she would have this legend captured by her hands. Not because she didn’t dare, but because she had a hard time using such a famous horse for her creativity.
Goosebumps
“I think everyone thinks back to Totilas with goosebumps,” Boss said during the unveiling. “The request to capture Totilas came back regularly. At first I felt resistance, but at some point I realized that many people could enjoy a sculpture of Totilas.”
Looking into the audience
“The way he looked into the audience after his test, that’s what moved me most about Totilas. I was curious to know how someone close to Totilas preferred to see him portrayed. Nicole Werner described the same moment and that took away all doubt from me.”
Accessible to many people
“The intention was to create a tangible memory of Totilas, one that is accessible to many people. That’s why I decided to donate a copy to the KWPN, so that everyone who visits the KWPN center in Ermelo thinks back to Totilas for a moment,” Boss explains.
Emotion
“This even overwhelms me,” responds Andries van Daalen. “I think I speak for the entire KWPN when I express my thanks for this gesture. Totilas could enchant people and was a greatness to many people. I can recall the moments before me when it became silent whenever Totilas came into view. Brigitte knows how to capture emotion and character of the horse in a fantastic way. We are very proud to receive this bronze horse statue of Totilas.”
